The City of St. Charles Early Childhood Center
The St. Charles R-VI School District (SCSD) Early Childhood education program believes in educating the “whole child.” In order to succeed in that mission, we focus on cognitive and language development (through daily exposure to literacy, handwriting and math practice, and opportunities to share and communicate with their peers), social and emotional development (using interaction with others and instruction on skills necessary for success in early elementary school), and physical development (using play, movement, music through dance and rhythm activities, and outdoor exercise opportunities). Using a Project Construct framework for our curriculum and teaching practices, your child will learn to make sense of the world through play, creative expression, and structured lessons and activities such as: dramatic play, learning centers, music and movement, arts/crafts, handwriting practice, math skills practice, and reading and phonics skill building. Each of our lead teachers is certified in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education and is assisted by a highly qualified paraprofessional, ensuring plenty of caregivers in each classroom to meet the children’s needs each day. Because play is essential for children to learn, we strive to integrate play into nearly every part of the preschool child’s day. Preschool half-day and full-day classes are available, with priority given to those 3, 4, and 5 year-olds who are educationally at risk and are residents of The City of St. Charles School District.
